The course will tackle action research in general (history, knowledge interest, practices etc) and the concept of artistic action research (history, contexts etc). The course will give examples on artistic action research. The workshop part of the course will give the students an opportunity to create an action research case. The course will give time for individual consultations as well.

Thursday, October 7
9.00–12.00. Lecture and discussion
1.About action research in general (history, knowledge interest, practices etc.)
2.The concept of artistic action research (history, contexts etc)
3.Example cases of artistic action research:
–Developing audience contact course in The University of Arts Helsinki
–Theatre project in Turku prison
–Developing entering exams in the degree program of acting in Theatre Academy of The University of Arts Helsinki
12.00–13.00 Lunch
13.00–17.00 Workshop on artistic action research cases
Friday, October 8
9.00–12.00 Individual consultations for those doctoral students who need it or plan to use action research in their research. Conversation about each student´s own project and ideas. We can base our conversation on the exercise done on previous day.
12.00–13.00 Lunch
13.00–16.00 Individual consultations
16.15–19.00. Seminar. Workshop presentations. Discussion
Presenting the exercises done on previous day. Comments, questions and conversation based on presentations.
