Cleaning workshop of stone objects and wall paintings
From theoretical approaches to practical assessment

Aim of the workshop:
The workshop is dedicated to different methods and approaches in cleaning of stone objects and wall paintings. In the theoretical part ethical and philosophical aspects of conservation will be discussed. An overview will be given of the theory and approaches towards cleaning of stone objects and wall paintings, of examples of types of deposits and secondary interventions, of cleaning techniques and materials and of the possibilities of evaluation.
The theoretical part will be followed by practical field work in the medieval church of St Mary Magdalene in Koeru where different tools and methods will be tested and evaluated. The results will be presented and an evaluation report will be jointly compiled.

Credits: 3 ECP
Full participation in the theoretical and practical part of the workshop and compilation of the joint evaluation report are the preconditions for positive assessment.
