This workshop will focus on how to write different types of academic reviews such as a book review, a volume review, a thesis review, as well on writing reviews of a popular science book, a scholarly article for a peer-review journal, etc. We will analyze different sample reviews for comparison and try writing a brief review on a short academic study (article or essay; individual feedback for each review will be given later electronically).

Plan of the workshop

10:00–11:00 Introduction, various types of reviews (writing an academic review, sample reviews); structure of reviews;

11:00–11:20 Coffee break

11:20–12:30 Writing a book (a monograph) review; a volume (scientific journal, conference volume) review; a popular science book review; a review of a thesis or an argumentative essay;

12:30–13:30 Break

13:30–16:00 Hands-on: students writing a short academic review, final discussion.

Individual feedback sent to students later by email.

The workshop will be conducted by Dr. Vladimir Sazonov , Senior Researcher at the Centre for Oriental Studies in the University of Tartu.

Online registration is available untill May 5, 2018. The number of students who can participate is limited.
