Phenomenology of Memory

Seminar

Phenomenology of Memory
3-4 December 2011, Tallinn University

SKK8010 Phenomenology of Memory

What is the past? What is memory? What are the roles of the two for an expert in the Humanities? These are just three – the most apparent – questions the upcoming KTKDK workshop aims at covering.

The first-day keynote speaker is Prof. Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht of Stanford University, whose lecture “How to Remember the Past in / of 2011: New Discursive Choices in the Writing of Memory” is open to everybody interested in the subject.

The workshop will proceed to the brainstorming-session centered on Prof.
Gumbrecht’s book in progress “After 1945 — Latency as Origin of the Present”. This part of the workshop is open to faculty members and all graduate students affiliated to the Baltic Graduate School and Graduate School of Cultures and Arts.

The second day’s main event is the round table “Memory and Culture” (cf. the workshop program for more details). This part of the workshop is also open to faculty members and BGS/ KTKDK graduate students.

The manuscript of After 1945 — Latency as Origin of the Present is available
from the BGS/ KTKDK mailing list or upon request from Aleksandra Dolgopolova ( dolgopolova.a@gmail.com ).
