{"id":653,"date":"2024-11-26T15:43:33","date_gmt":"2024-11-26T13:43:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ktkdk.edu.ee\/winterschool2025\/?page_id=653"},"modified":"2024-12-09T09:15:10","modified_gmt":"2024-12-09T07:15:10","slug":"practicalities","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ktkdk.edu.ee\/winterschool2025\/practicalities\/","title":{"rendered":"Practicalities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>The winter school is organised by the Estonian Doctoral School for Humanities and Arts and is primarily aimed at doctoral students currently enrolled at Estonian universities and their supervisors.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Upon full participation in the Winter School students will receive a certificate stating they have passed the course in a certain capacity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>2 ECTS credits<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 attending all lectures (6) + attending at least two workshops.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>4 ECTS credits<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 attending all lectures (6) + attending three workshops + delivering a presentation at the science slam.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We encourage you to inquire with the Study Counsellor at your home university to confirm that the credits can be incorporated into your study plan. Especially with MA students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participation is free of charge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Only PhD and MA students and supervisors will be accepted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If needed, accommodation will be arranged by the organisers for participants coming from universities not located in Tallinn.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>If you have been accepted but discover that you are not able to take part you are required to inform the organisers immediately. Workshops have a quota of participants!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Required reading assignments for each workshop are available on the web.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>About the students\u2019 science slam<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Every student has 5 minutes to explain his\/her research project in an understandable, entertaining and concise way. All kinds of experimental, creative, visual presentations are encouraged. The slams will be presented to all participants of the Winter School and will be discussed and judged by an expert-jury and the listeners.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the end of the session the best slam(s) will be elected and the winner(s) will be awarded with a little prize.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">6 rules of science slam at the winter school:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The presentation shall not be longer than 5 minutes! You will be interrupted brutally and the floor will be given to the jury.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To make your slam a success, concentrate on just one story\/example! Make your ideas simple and present them in an understandable, entertaining and concise way. Do not even think about going into the depth of your theses \u2013 this will be a disaster!<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If possible, connect your story to the general topic of the winter school.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All kinds of experimental, creative, visual presentations are encouraged! If you choose to use powerpoint\/keynote\/prezi send the files to student slam coordinator Tanya Escudero at <\/span><a href=\"mailto:escudero@tlu.ee\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">escudero@tlu.ee<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We encourage you to structure your presentation around some item you can bring along with you.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The science slam should be fun for all of us! Don\u2019t be too serious about it but use your time in the best possible way.
